Work With SQL Server Data Without SQL
Krell Software has released OmniView v2.0, a data editing and querying tool for
Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000 that greatly simplifies data manipulation tasks for
anyone working with SQL Server databases.
Not just another visual query tool, OmniView is a feature-rich data manipulation
application which makes working with SQL Server database content quick and easy
for a wide range of user skill levels. Database administrators and developers
can examine and change data more rapidly and conveniently with OmniView than
with the native tools provided with SQL Server. But other types of users often
need to work directly with database content as well, including project managers,
quality assurance teams, technical support staff, trainers...and sometimes even
customers. Often these users are not as proficient with the more
developer-centric SQL Server tools, but OmniView allows them to be more
productive and lessens the workload on DBAs to support them.
OmniView allows you to examine data from any table or view just like a
spreadsheet. You can add, change or delete data just as easily as you would
within a spreadsheet, without writing any SQL queries whatsoever. In addition,
you can create queries against data using a simple point-and-click interface
that does not require any SQL knowledge. Build expressions by selecting fields,
operators, and values from dropdown lists. OmniView transforms this
behind-the-scenes into the appropriate SQL and performs the query for you. Power
users or SQL-savvy individuals can still write SQL expressions directly if they
desire.
Entire SQL scripts can be created from scratch using OmniView's advanced SQL
editor. The editor includes auto-completion features that provide dropdown lists
for database tables, SQL functions, and global variables. Write SQL quicker and
more accurately without stopping to look up reference information. Any data
returned by the query can be manipulated with the same powerful spreadsheet
features described above.
OmniView is available in two editions: Standard and Professional. The Pro
edition is more suitable for advanced users. Pro allows you to work with stored
procedures using a parameter editor to set parameter values and provides the
same spreadsheet features for any data returned by the stored procedure. With
Pro, you can also view and edit system table data directly in the spreadsheet.
OmniView v2.0 runs under Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP/2003, and is priced at
$49.00 for Standard, and $59.00 for Professional. Multi-user discounts are
available and minor version updates are always free.
